Why Whoopi Goldberg Was Missing From ‘The View’
Fans of The View count on seeing their favorite morning TV personalities every day, so it was a big surprise to viewers when Whoopi Goldberg was absent from her usual post on Wednesday, May 14.
As co-host Joy Behar explained, however, Goldberg, 69, had a good reason for missing the broadcast, according to TV Insider.
“Whoopi’s got some kind of little bug,” Behar revealed, adding, “Not Covid, though, not Covid. She was wearing a mask yesterday. She wasn’t feeling well, but she’s coming back tomorrow — supposedly, if she feels better.”
Back in July 2024, Goldberg missed the show after being diagnosed with Covid; she was also out with the flu in February. While whether or not she’ll be back on Thursday remains to be seen, the Sister Act star is usually off on Fridays.
Goldberg seemed to be in good health earlier this week, such as when the panel weighed in on the issue of college students using ChatGPT to cheat.
Goldberg pointed out that “young people” shouldn’t rely on technology for everything.
“In the event that the grid fails, you’re still gonna have to to know how to go and open a book and know how to look it up,” she said.
“You’re still gonna need that information,” Goldberg continued. “And the grid is gonna go down. We know that. It is going to happen and has happened, and there was a time one day, in New York City, the phones stopped working. They just — does anybody remember this day, when the phones just went out? You couldn’t get anything, couldn’t get internet, nothing.”
“During the blackout?” Sunny Hostin asked.
“Ten years ago,” Goldberg replied, adding, “And it came outta nowhere. And people were like, ‘Oh my god!’ They couldn’t find anything, they couldn’t use the phone.”
Goldberg concluded her argument with a warning for viewers.
“So, prepare for everything,” she said. “I don’t know all this stuff but be prepared to know how to go in and crack that book open and find what you need, cause if you don’t, your pants are gonna be down and you’re gonna be on fire.”
