ITV Coronation Street viewers issue plea as character’s exit confirmed in major summer twist
Fans are begging for their favourite character to stay on the cobbles for longer
Coronation Street viewers all said the same thing after a recent instalment of the ITV soap. Drama continued on the cobbles as the Platt’s had their housewarming party when Maria and Lou’s rivalry reached a new boiling point.
Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty) arrived in Weatherfield earlier this year alongside her husband Mick (Joe Layton). The troublemaker new neighbours were quick to shake things up for the other residents.
Mick has recently faced a prison sentence for killing fan-favourite character Craig Tinker (Colson Smith). Ever since Craig’s tragic death, Lou has tried to separate herself from her husband’s bad reputation. But the only person to see her in a more positive light is Gary Windass (Mikey North).
To Maria’s disgust, Gary and Lou have grown closer in recent weeks. Last week, Maria (Samia Longchambon) caught them having a drink in the Rovers, as well as a quick chat in Speed Daal on a separate occasion. Gary even arranged to buy Mick’s van off Lou in secret.
Viewers have gotten to know Lou and will be sad to see the character leave, with some claiming she fits in with the rest of the cast perfectly.
A summer exit is on the cards for the character, as the actress only joined the soap for a short-term storyline set to play out over the next few months.
Taking to social media, fans expressed their wishes for producers to keep the actress in the soap for good. One viewer wrote: “Lou is a great character, let’s keep her on the cobbles.”
A second agreed: “Continuing my petition ONCE AGAIN to keep Farrell Hegarty on Corrie.” A third added: “Lou just screams ‘working at the factory’. The laughs, the chaos. It seems perfect. Such a shame Farrell is leaving.”

Wednesday’s episode of the ITV soap saw Lou trying to steal money from Shona’s bag while at the Platt’s housewarming party. When she was caught by Maria, the pair found themselves in a violent altercation which led to Lou falling onto the glass coffee table.
Having cut herself from the sharp glass, Gary offered to take her to hospital which left Maria furious. Fans are convinced Lou and Gary will start an affair in the coming weeks before Lou’s inevitable departure.
One fan wrote: “Lou and Gary are going to have a thing going on.” A second said: “Gary is too eager to help Lou” and a third added: “Lou and Gary will soon end up in bed.”
As the episode came to an end, Lou decided to press charges for her accident with Maria. Weatherfield police arrived at the Rover’s Return to arrest Maria for causing bodily harm towards her.
