ITV Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver lost 3st doing two things
The star, who has played Eileen Grimshaw in the soap for 25 years, is set to leave the show with fans saying they have spotted clues to her exit storyline
Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver is set to leave the show after 25 years. Fans have already begun to spot what they believe will be her exit storyline ahead of her departure.
The actress, who plays Eileen Grimshaw in the soap, told The Sun earlier this year she was leaving to pursue other projects. Now 61, she said she would not be killed off with the potential to return in the future.
However with her departure due in late spring clues have emerged that she could be falsely linked with an assisted suicide story. This week her sister died on the show but Eileen was then implicated with her death.
But prior to her departure the star has had an incredible transformation after losing three stones in weight. She previously explained how she had done it – and it was by two things.
She had gone from a size 16 to a 12 by stopping drinking red wine – and taking part in I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!. She told how she had gone on HRT and following that realised she needed to make some big changes to her habits, some which had crept in during the covid pandemic.

She said: ” “In the pandemic we all over-did things. I spent a lot of it drinking lots of lovely red wine and I put on a lot of weight doing it.”
So she decided to take part in Dry January and says it sparked a major change in her metabolism. She told Loose Women in December: “My weight has been up, down, all over the place. and most of it was helped by red wine. At the minute, I am a lot thinner but I’ve been ill this year, and for some reason my metabolism just seems to have changed and because I’m not drinking.”
Then, speaking to Woman Magazine, she told how she had now decided to quit drinking alcohol completely. She told the publication how after losing the weight by quitting red wine she went on to shed more while in the I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here jungle.

She said she lost 18lb on the reality show adding: “I’d already lost a stone and a half that year, because I gave up booze. I did Dry January and then I decided to carry on.
“I know it sounds ridiculous at my age, but I never really thought about how many calories I was consuming when I was having a glass of red wine while cooking dinner and then a couple more while eating it. If you’re doing that four or five nights a week, that’s a lot of calories.”
Now the star is set for new opportunities with her time on the show drawing to an end. Earlier this year her soap sister Julie Carp, played by Katy Cavanagh returned to Coronation Street after almost a decade away,
She told Eileen she had just months to live after a cancer diagnosis. Then this week viewers were stunned when Eileen and Julie went to a scenic location.
Then as Eileen returned from getting refreshments she discovered her sister unconscious as she passed away. But Julie’s past love Brian Packham, played by Peter Gunn, believes Eileen was involved in the death and reported her to the police.
Devastated Eileen ended the show saying she couldn’t believe her sister hadn’t thought of the consequences of involving her. She said: “Now I’m going to get charged for her murder, for killing my own flesh and blood!”
