EastEnders’ Jo Joyner life off-screen with twins and famous husband

EastEnders legend Jo Joyner is set to star in the new Paramount Plus drama Little Disasters, drawing comparisons to HBO’s Big Little Lies due to its exploration of motherhood, friendship and small-town secrets.

Joyner takes on the role of Dr Liz Burgess in the series, with Hollywood actress Diane Kruger leading the cast as Jess Carrisford.

The remaining two mothers, Charlotte Hinman and Mel Quinn, are portrayed by Bridgerton’s Shelley Conn and War and Peace actress Emily Taaffe.

Little Disasters is based on a novel by Sarah Vaughan, the author behind the Sunday Times bestseller Anatomy of a Scandal, reports the Express.

Fans are eagerly anticipating Joyner’s performance in her new role – but what is the series about, where might you recognise her from, and what is the actress’ life like off-screen?

What is Jo Joyner’s new thriller Little Disasters about?

Little Disasters is a six-part series that delves into challenging topics such as parenting struggles, marriage, postnatal anxiety and maternal OCD. It follows four very different women who share nothing more than their due dates.

The official synopsis from Paramount Plus states: “When Jess takes her baby to hospital with an unexplained head injury, her close friend and on-duty AandE doctor Liz must make the excruciating decision of whether to call social services, setting off an explosive chain of events for their friendship group.”

Famous husband and giving birth to fraternal twins

Joyner’s personal life is just as eventful, having met her now-husband Neil Madden at the age of 25 and marrying him after a five-year romance in 2007.

Madden, who has since become a drama teacher, boasts acting credits in The Bill, Lewis, Holby City, and Silent Witness.

The couple are proud parents to fraternal twins Freddie and Edie, born in 2009, and they reside near Stratford-upon-Avon.

In a candid chat with the Mirror in 2022, Joyner shared her IVF experience, stating she felt “incredibly lucky” to have her twins.

She detailed their journey, saying: “We tried everything – acupuncture, fertility diets, reflexology – but nothing worked. We had tests and knew there was a slim chance anything [natural] would work and that was when we made the decision to try IVF.

“The twins were very longed for – we were incredibly lucky because we had them with our first round of IVF,” Joyner recounted.
