EastEnders favourite ‘not coping’ after ‘being lied to all the time’
Elaine Knight spirals out of control next week as her marriage to George Knight crumbles and Harriet Thorpe has shared what's next for her EastEnders character
EastEnders actress Harriet Thrope has opened up about her character Elaine Knight’s future as her marriage to George Knight hits the rocks.
George (Colin Salmon) has been spending more time with ex-wife Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) leaving Elaine fuming.
Kim Fox (Tameka Empson), Mo Harris (Laila Morse), Priya Nandra-Hart ( Sophie Khan Levy), Denise Fox (Diane Parish), Honey Mitchell ( Emma Barton) and Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) join in as the Queen Vic landlady throws a party.
As the night gets steadily messier, Elaine shocks daughter Linda Carter by declaring the Prosecco is on the house all night.
Meanwhile, Phil Mitchell and Nigel Bates pop in for a drink and Phil notices how much Linda is struggling with doing to bar alone so ends up helping her out.
Later, tipsy Elaine offers to book Priya a singles cruise and she can pay her back later. Linda is horrified to see £5,000 leave the business account but when she confronts Elaine, she dismisses her.
Elaine wakes up with a vicious hangover and refuses to engage with Linda, who is still reeling at her decision to book Priya on the cruise.Back at The Vic, Phil realises just how much Linda is struggling to cope with the pressure.
Later, Phil chastises Elaine for treating Linda so carelessly but when Elaine tries to talk to Linda, she continues to downplay her true feelings of overwhelm.
Opening up about Elaine’s recent behaviour, Harriet said: “I’m not sure Elaine is coping at all.
“It’s endless trials and tribulations as she’s being lied to all the time, and it always seems to involve George’s past loves.
“So, she’s dealing with things as best she can and trying to put on the front that she always puts on, but I’m not sure it’s working.”
Harriet went on to reveal that Elaine getting glammed up for her party is a welcome distraction.
She added: “Elaine’s strapline for life is get off the pity pot, crack a smile and get on with it.
“However, Elaine is putting a plaster on a gaping wound and doesn’t want to show her vulnerability.
“She thinks if she puts on a costume, does her hair, applies her lipliner and pops on her heels, she’ll feel back to her old self.”
