SAD NEWS: Coronation Street’s Abi Webster leaves legend to die in shocking act of violence
A spiralling Abi Webster (Sally Carman) leaves Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) for dead after a shock attack in Coronation Street next week.
Abi is currently in the midst of a mental health episode triggered by the death of Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan), as it has reminded her of how son Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) died in similarly violent circumstances back in 2021.
She will be stunned later this week when she finds out someone has called social services on her, concerned for the welfare of her young son Alfie, and becomes convinced sister-in-law Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) is responsible.
However, next week, Abi finds out that Toyah was the one who made the call – and her discovery has deadly consequences.
Things all begin to escalate after Toyah finds Harry Platt (Carter-J Murphy) in the bistro office watching Hope’s live stream of a seance from No.8 with Ruby Dobbs (Billy Naylor) and Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan), and rushes over to order the kids out.
Having heard about the live stream from stepson Jack Webster (Kyran Bowes), Abi lets herself into No.8 and finds Toyah and an argument erupts over her calling the social.
As Toyah accidentally knocks over a bottle of red wine, Abi is reminded of Seb covered in blood when he died and suffers a panic attack.
Toyah reaches out to Abi but in her confused state, Abi smacks her and rushes out.
Actress Sally Carman, who plays Abi, reveals: ‘When she goes to find Toyah after finding out, she’s not thinking straight, she’s right back into fight or flight, and she’s fighting, she’s not going intentionally to potentially kill her. She’s going to absolutely stop this once and for all.
‘Abi has gone there to finish the conversation. And she ends up hitting her and essentially leaving her for dead.’
But Toyah will be left in serious danger when someone later approaches No.8 and pushes a lit rag through the letterbox.
As flames rip through the Platts’, news of the fire reaches the Bistro, and worried that Lily Platt (Brooke Malonie) may be in the house, Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) Max Turner (Paddy Bever) and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) head inside.
Nick is then stunned when he finds Toyah unconscious on the floor – but as the fire further takes hold, will they all get out alive?
Coronation Street airs these scenes from Monday 3 February at 8pm on ITV1 or stream first from 7am on ITVX.
