Coronation Street star Sydney Martin declares love for co-star after ‘lucky’ admission
The actress, from Rossendale, was officially revealed as being Betsy Swain, the daughter of established character DS Lisa Swain last summer

Coronation Street star Sydney Martin has been left declaring her love for one of her co-stars as she was heard talking about life on the cobbles.
The actress, from Rossendale, was officially revealed as being Betsy Swain, the daughter of established character DS Lisa Swain, last summer after already popping up in the ITV soap, simply as Sabrina Adetiba’s mate.
The role is Sydney’s first major TV move and previously speaking about the character, Sydney, who is 23 but playing 16-year-old Betsy, told the Manchester Evening News and other press: “So I had a really big description through when I first got [the role], she’s feisty, she’s cocky but she’s such a smart cookie.
“She’s so intelligent which I definitely think comes from her mum and she’s very street-wise. She has had to fend for herself a little bit because Lisa’s gone back to work and they’re having to deal with grief together. As the weeks go on, we do get to see a fun, manipulative side to her.”
Corrie fans have since seen that unfold over almost a year but was has also been seen by viewers is Sydney’s bond with co-star Vicky Myers, who plays Lisa, both on and off-screen.
In a new video doing the rounds on social media, Sydney is heard talking about her on-screen mum. The video is seemingly taken from a live session she had on one of her social media profiles and she says: “Am I close with Vicky outside of acting? Yeah, I love her! I literally can’t imagine my life with her.
It comes after Sydney was seen showing her public support for Vicky as she marked four years since she first appeared in Corrie as Lisa, then just DS Swain. She joined the ITV soap in 2021 and made sporadic appearances as the detective sergeant.

But it wasn’t actually until last year that Viky was given the regular role of Lisa on the cobbles and has been a major part of a number of storylines since.
However, the soap star has now officially marked four years since her Corrie debut. Taking to social media earlier this mont, she shared a number of previously unseen pictures from her first stint on the Cobbles, including DS Swain’s police lanyard and her own name on a dressing room door.
Alongside the post on Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter, the soap star said: “Four years of DS Lisa Swain. I can’t quite believe it’s been four years. What a journey, what a story, what a woman, and there’s plenty more to come!
“Whether you love her or hate her, thank you. Forever grateful. Thank you @itvcorrie And thank YOU #LisaSwain #Corrie. Explaining the pictures, she added: “After wrap on the first 4 eps in ‘21.”
Sydney was quick to reshare Vicky’s post to her own Instagram Story and said: “That’s my TV mama!!” alongside a string of star emojis. She also echoed the sentiment on X as she wrote: “that’s my on screen mama,” with the same star emojis.
Sydney also showed her support by commenting on Vicky’s Instagram post as she gushed: “And what a talent you are [star emoji]. So lucky I’ve been a small part of your Corrie journey so far [face holding back tears emoji]. love you mama swain.”
Meanwhile, fellow Corrie star, and off-screen bestie, Sally Carman-Duttine, who plays Weatherfield’s Abi Webster, said: “You are the best!! Here’s to the next four you amazing woman!” while Alya Nazir actress Sair Khan added: “Woohoo.”
