Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has shared a health update following her recent exit from the long-running show.

The actress, who bowed out of the ITV soap after 25 years in the role of Eileen Grimshaw, took to social media to give an insight into her “life with Type 2 diabetes”.

Her diagnosis first became public knowledge back in 2011 when the soap star received hospital treatment after collapsing on the set of the ITV soap. A spokesperson for Coronation Street told Mail Online at the time: “Sue felt ill on set and was taken to hospital as a precaution.”

It was then last year that Sue was heard talking about the condition and she teamed up with Dexcom, a company that makes electronic diabetes management devices, and shared what she “wishes you knew” about living with diabetes.

She said: “I wish you knew how upsetting and frustrating it can be for somebody with Type 2 diabetes when other people make comments about what they think they should be eating, or not eating. It is not all about eating sugar. It’s complicated.”

Sue also told how stress massively impacts her blood sugar, and said her glucose “skyrockets” before she is about to go on stage. She added: “I wish you knew that with diabetes it is not a case of one size fits all”.

The soap star has new shared a fresh post on Thursday (June 12) about the condition. She shared two pictures side-by-side, one in which she could be seen looking exasperated in the kitchen, while another showed her looking calm and content in the great outdoors.

Alongside the post, Sue wrote: “Life with Type 2 diabetes comes with constant decisions, mental load, and emotional noise. The effort and stress that used to go into meal planning and other daily activities were overwhelming.

“But since using my @dexcomuk CGM, that noise has quietened down. The automatic glucose readings help me see the impact of food and drink, exercise and other activities I love, which takes a weight off my mind and helps me enjoy life beyond diabetes. And for Diabetes Awareness Week, I’m partnering with Dexcom to help #DialDowntheNoise.”

It comes after Sue’s final moments on the set of Corrie were revealed as fans were left emotional about her character’s departure. She announced at the start of the year her plans to leave the show.

She said in a statement at the time: “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street. The door is still firmly open, but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly.”

It was then lastFriday (June 6) that Sue’s final scenes aired as Eileen was seen ditching Weatherfield for Thailand after being given an offer to invest in a bar with her son, Jason, who made a brief return to the cobbles to see his mum.

Following the death of sister Julie Carp, Eileen was questioned her feelings about her relationships with George Shuttleworth, played by Tony Maudsley.

She was also torn when Jason, played by Ryan Thomas, asked her to move to Thailand to invest in her bar. At first she planned to go with George, but after discussing their relationship and coming to the realisation that it was one-sided, she departed for Thailand on her own.

But not before a celebration in the Rovers Return organised by the Streetcar drivers, before they escorted her to her car ready to leave the Street behind.

Following her final scenes, Ryan, who only reprised the role of Jason after nine years after being asked to be part of Sue’s exit, took to social media with videos from her last stint filming for the long-running show inside the iconic Grimshaw home.

In the clip, the crew behind the camera can be seen clapping Sue as she wrapped on her final take. She embraced her co-stars before show boss Kate Brooks jumped in to deliver a speech.
