Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon has been seen ditching the cobbles as she revealed she was filming another TV show.

The actress is best known to fans of the ITV soap for playing Weatherfield’s Maria Windass. Samia made her debut in the role of Maria – then Sutherland – back in in May 2000.

During her time on the show, Maria has been the centre of major storylines. In late-2009, Longchambon took maternity leave and Maria was off-screen from November 2009 until June 2010.

She then went on maternity leave again in 2015 and Maria was off-screen from October 2015 until April 2016 but has been a mainstay on the Street ever since.

But it was quite recently that fans found themselves asking about a number of characters’ sudden disappearance from Weatherfield, including Maria and her husband Gary Windass, played by Mikey North.

Both has since returned to screens and are set to be part of a number of dramatic scenes in the long-running show. But while busy at the Trafford-based set, Samia did find time to pop down to London to film another TV show.

Sharing a mirror selfie to Instagram, in which she looked fabulous in a brown mini dress, which boasted a slinky neckline, while she popped a pair of black heels on her feet.

Alongside the post on her Instagram Story, Samia wrote: “Had a fun day filming a show I’ve been a fan of since I was a kid…” before adding a number of emojis, including the winking face.

It came after she reshared the announcement that Corrie is set to be involved in a history-making crossover with fellow ITV soap, Emmerdale, which she reshared to her Instagram Story and described as “big news”.

The hour-long crossover episode will air in January 2026 as ITV and STV announce a new hour of soap schedule, which will see half hour Emmerdale episodes air at 8pm, followed by 30 minute episodes of Coronation Street at 8.30pm.

Producers of the two soaps say the special episode will have “everlasting consequences for everyone involved”, saying the two shows’ universes in Manchester and Yorkshire had been linked in an “ingenious way”.

They say the episode will be self-contained, but its events will have “repercussions for both communities and see them linked forever as familiar faces depart and exciting new characters arrive into both soaps”.

From next month fans will be able to vote on the soaps’ Instagram, Facebook and TikTok accounts for the two characters they want to see interact.
