Coronation Street fans are speculating that a soap legend could be making a return to help Maria Connor, played by Samia Longchambon, in her battle against Lou Michaelis.
Maria has been a constant presence on our screens since her debut in 2000 and quickly became a fan favourite.
She’s been at the centre of numerous major storylines, from her many failed romances to street feuds, ensuring her time in Weatherfield has been anything but dull.
Recently, she’s been at odds with newcomer Lou (Farrel Hegarty), who arrived on the cobbles earlier this year alongside her thug husband Mick (Joe Layton).
In a shocking turn of events in May, Mick brutally murdered soap legend Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) in a drunken rage, and it was revealed that he was abusive towards Lou, reports Leicestershire Live.
Mick is now behind bars, while Lou, a mother to three children including troublemaker Brody (Ryan Mulvey), remains on the cobbles.
Lou has been trying to convince her neighbours that she’s not like her husband, but Maria has expressed her doubts and dislike for her.
During a recent housewarming barbecue at the Platt’s, Maria nearly caught Lou stealing money. The two ended up in a scuffle, resulting in Lou falling into a coffee table.
Despite telling Maria’s hubby Gary (Mikey North)—whom viewers reckon she’ll soon have a fling with—that she wouldn’t snitch to the cops, Maria was nicked regardless.
As Lou seems set on turning the Street against Maria, Corrie viewers are positive a Weatherfield icon will return to aid Maria’s crisis.
On a Corrie fan page, one viewer remarked: “Maria needs to give Gary an ultimatum, can’t believe he’s siding with her.” Another added: “Someone needs to help Maria take Lou down.”
A third speculated about ex-local Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou): “Remember Marcus? Sean’s ex? Wild theory but he was always a good friend to her.”
A different fan speculated: “True! He might have some dirt on Lou or something.”
And another pondered: “Hmm, it wouldn’t be the strangest thing to happen, and he still has history on the cobbles with Sean still there.”
Yet another said: “Maybe he returns for Sean as well.”
Midwife Marcus first popped up on the soap in 2007, became a staple character as he dated Sean Tully (Anthony Cotton), moved in with Maria to play dad to young Liam, before eventually leaving the street in 2014.
