ITV Coronation Street’s Tony Maudsley declares love for co-star as fans ‘want more’
Tony Maudsley plays George Shuttleworth on the ITV soap
Coronation Street’s Tony Maudsley has declared his love for his co-star Jodie Prenger as she celebrated her birthday today. The George Shuttleworth star issued a heartfelt post on Instagram as he wished his “telly sister” a “Happy Birthday.”
The Kirkby actor first appeared in Weatherfield in 2020 and quickly became one of Coronation Street’s most important characters. Viewers have grown to love George and Glenda’s brother and sister bond.
Tony regularly shares snaps of the actors’ close friendship off-screen to his almost 55,000 followers on Instagram. In a recent post, the 57-year-old actor posted a photograph of him and Jodie to celebrate her birthday.
He captioned the post: “Happy birthday to the best telly sister a boy could wish for! Love you long time @msjodieprenger. LET’S EAT CAKE!”
Coronation Street fans rushed to the comments to wish the Glenda actress a “Happy Birthday.” One fan said: “Best wishes on your Birthday Jodie, love you two together.”
A second wrote: “Happy Birthday Jodie! Hope you have a wonderful day celebrating! Love Glenda and her karaoke. Want more of that, please. “
This isn’t the first time viewers have seen Tony and Jodie meet up away from Weatherfield. Jodie recently shared several snaps as the two actors attended Blackpool Pride alongside several of their Corrie co-stars including Jane Hazelgrove (Bernie Winter) and Peter Gunn (Brian Packham).
She wrote: “@blackpoolpride You’ve done it again! Not even the rain could stop us. A fabulous day with a beautiful bunch of peeps, and a lesson to us all that love is love, and life’s too bloody short to blend in when you were born to stand out.”
George and his sister Glenda have been at the centre of the drama on the ITV soap following George’s long-term partner Eileen Grimshaw’s (Sue Cleaver) sudden departure.
The funeral director was heartbroken when Eileen bid farewell to the cobbles for good as she moved to Thailand with her son Jason. Ryan Thomas reprised his role for his soap mum’s exit storyline.
In recent episodes of the hit ITV soap, viewers saw George open up to Glenda as he felt lost without his other half. Taking to Instagram, Tony joked: “His Mrs only left him on Friday but Glenda’s had enough of his moping already!! Don’t hold back, Sis!”
Viewers took to the comments to praise their favourite onscreen partnership. One fan said: “The best onscreen siblings” followed by love heart emojis.
A second agreed: “My favourite siblings on the show” and a third added: “Love both of your characters. Please keep up the great work!”
