BBC moves EastEnders tonight in schedule shake-up after Air India crash

The BBC has announced that EastEnders and The One Show will be moved in a last minute schedule change, with BBC One airing coverage of the Air India crash instead

The BBC has announced that both The One Show and EastEnders will be moved over to BBC Two in a last minute schedule change as they’re replaced by a special on the Air India crash. Earlier today, a plane bound for London Gatwick from Ahmedabad crashed shortly after taking off, killing at least 204 people. The plane was carrying 242 passengers and crew, including 53 British nationals.

BBC EastEnders shared in a tweet: “There’s a schedule change for tonight’s (Thursday 12th) episode of #EastEnders. We’ll be on @BBCTwo at 7.30pm.” The One Show will also be airing on BBC Two instead, with the live programme no longer in its usual 7pm slot.

The show’s X account confirmed the news, writing: “Today on #TheOneShow…Josh Groban celebrates his new album and 25 years in music.

“Fay Ripley reveals what she discovered on her upcoming ‘DNA Journey’. Live tonight at 7pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.”

In their place, BBC One is airing BBC News Special: Air India Plane Crash, where presenter Maryam Moshiri will host special coverage of the tragedy.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner collided with a medical college shortly after taking off on Thursday, creating a huge fireball.

Vishwash, who claims that he was in seat 11A of the Gatwick-bound flight when it took off from Ahmedabad on Thursday, suffered “impact injuries” on his chest, eyes and feet. He said that 30 seconds after take-off there was “a loud noise” before the plane crashed.

He said: “It all happened so quickly.” He added that he was in India for a few days to visit his family and was heading back to the UK with his brother Ajay Kumar Ramesh, 45.

Among those who have tragically died are three Brits – Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa and their four-year-old daughter Sara.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Gloucester Muslim Community paid tribute to the family. They said: “During this moment of overwhelming sorrow, our hearts go out to all those left behind.

“No words can truly ease the pain of such a profound loss, but we pray that the family may find solace in the tremendous outpouring of compassion and solidarity from communities across the world. May their cherished memories provide comfort, and may they rest in eternal peace.”
