EastEnders fans convinced major return set for Kat and Alfie’s wedding
An episode this week will serve as the show's Executive Producer's final one
EastEnders fans are convinced that a major return is set to be made at Kat and Alfie’s wedding this week.
Following a tricky period for their family on the BBC soap, including their son Tommy being violent, Kat Slater and Alfie Moon began seeing each other again six months ago.
First beginning dating when Alfie was introduced to the show, the pair have been through their fair share of ups and downs.
Tying the knot for the first time on Christmas Day in 2003, they first split when Alfie found a tape of Kat cheating on him with Andy Hunter.
Getting married two more times, they’ve had to deal with Ronnie Mitchell swapping their babies, Kat sleeping with Derek Branning and Alfie having a child with Hayley Slater.
Despite everything that they’ve gone through, Alfie got down on one knee to propose to Kat for the fourth time last week.
The pair’s wedding planning hasn’t been smooth sailing, with Kat discovering adult content on their family laptop, which she’s adamant Alfie purchased when it was Tommy.
Set to walk down the aisle later this week, the final episode of the week, airing on the iPlayer on Thursday (June 12) and on Friday (June 13) is the last being released under Chris Clenshaw.
Following Chris’ three years in charge, Ben Wadey’s first episode as Executive Producer is set to air on Monday (June 16).
The new Executive Producer previously worked on EastEnders as the show’s Story Editor, helping out with the show’s 35th anniversary in 2020, which saw the boat crash that claimed the life of Sharon Watt’s son Dennis Rickman Jr.
Due to EastEnders being filmed months in advance, Chris’ final time listed in the credits will see Kat and Alfie decide if they want to get married or not.
Over on the EastEnders Reddit, fans are convinced that Chris is going to end his tenure with a bang and debated which character he might bring back.
@donerkebab__ said: “I’d say maybe Zoe and Lil Mo but idk.” @RoutinePsychology198: “Part of me wants to believe it’s Zoe.”
@EleniChatzikozta wrote: “Zoe, Ben or Max making an appearance in time for Kat’s not-quite-wedding? Zoe would be the favourite for that storyline, but who knows what goes on in Clenshaws head.”
@NewCarob9279 commented: “I initially considered that, but then I thought she might return in September, as it will be the anniversary for the Slaters. What plans could they possibly have for it if she comes back in the summer? Regardless, even if she does return this week, I’ll still be happy.”
It emerged earlier in the month that Michelle Ryan, 41, has reportedly agreed to reprise her role as Zoe Slater after playing the character between 2000 and 2005.
Zoe was involved at the heart of one of the show’s most memorable storylines in 2001 when it was revealed that Kat Slater, played by Jessie Wallace, was actually her mother instead of her sister.
The bombshell was dropped during the explosive ‘You ain’t my mother!’ scene between the pair, which became a legendary moment of the soap.
