Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver drops Eileen Grimshaw exit spoiler on GMB
Coronation Street's Sue Cleaver appeared on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday to discuss her upcoming exit from the ITV soap after 25 years playing Eileen Grimshaw
Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver faced a barrage of questions about her imminent departure from the ITV soap during her appearance on Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain.
Sue, 61, engaged in conversation with presenters Susanna Reid and Ed Balls as she discussed leaving her role as Eileen Grimshaw after a memorable 25-year stint.
News broke earlier this year that Sue was set to leave her longstanding role, and soon viewers will witness her emotional goodbye to Weatherfield. Having first appeared on the street back in 2000, Sue has had an impressive quarter-century run.
Tuesday’s edition of Good Morning Britain featured a sneak peek of upcoming drama between Eileen and George Shuttleworth.
With the return of Eileen’s son, Jason Grimshaw, he pitched the idea of his mother moving to Thailand to join him in business, which Eileen found intriguing, though she doubted George would ever agree to such a move.
Following her confession to her son, George hears of the conversation, much to his surprise, reports Leicestershire Live.
The tantalising preview showed George stopping by the cab office to announce to Eileen his willingness to relocate to Thailand and his plans for them to depart on a holiday there the very next day to explore the possibility further. The clip left viewers wondering how Eileen would respond.
Post-preview, Susanna, 54, probed: “So do you go or don’t you?” eliciting an excited response from Sue: “Am I allowed to say?”.
Susanna encouraged: “Yes, go on!” with Sue jubilantly confirming: “Yes, of course!”
Susanna continued her line of inquiry, asking: “So you definitely go?” with Sue affirming: “Yes, I do.”
Keen for further gossip, Susanna prodded: “And do you go with George?” Sue maintained some mystery by answering: “I can’t really say that, you’ll have to wait and see about that!”
In their conversation, Sue also discussed her life post-Coronation Street as she’s already filmed her farewell scenes which are yet to be broadcast.
She revealed to Susanna, “I left a couple of months ago!” Sparking the question from Susanna, “So what do you miss about the street?”
Sue reflected, saying: “Well my husband’s still there, so I’m still very much involved.”
This led Susanna to clarify, “Your real husband!” to which Sue confirmed with a laugh, “My real husband!”, indicating his role behind the scenes of the famous soap.
Expanding on her ties to Coronation Street, Sue mentioned, “He’s still there, so I still see people. I had people round off the street on Sunday from Corrie, some of the cast round for Sunday lunch a few weeks ago.”
Concluding, Sue expressed, “So in a sense of my life, nothing’s changed!”
