Ben Shephard says looking like iconic Eastenders character motivated him to transform his body
'I knew it was a moment to catch myself. I had to get back on it'
Ben Shephard has opened up about his impressive fitness journey and what motivated him to get into shape early on. The 50 year old presenter of This Morning from Essex, took the spotlight on Men’s Health’s June cover, flaunting a well-toned body.
Ben reflected on his approach to fitness after celebrating his 50th birthday last December, offering advice on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Jokingly, he remembered a time when he thought he looked more like Frank Butcher from EastEnders than was appropriate for his age, a realisation that nudged him towards changing his life choices.
“I looked a bit more like Frank Butcher than I thought I should have at that stage of life,” he commented wryly. “No one said anything at the time – it was way before social media. But I knew it was a moment to catch myself. I had to get back on it.”
The much-loved TV personality admitted in the interview with Men’s Health UK that he is “always focused on the outcome” while embarking on his workout regime, highlighting the sense of triumph he feels after completing a rigorous routine, reports the Mirror.
“The agony of putting those shoes on first thing in the morning and taking those first few steps is nothing compared with the euphoria of taking them off and having a glass of water when you finish. But you only get that once you’ve finished the bit in the middle,” he explained.
In a separate discussion, Ben looked back on how his physique has evolved since his previous Men’s Health cover in 2012, which sparked his latest feature. He noted that although he thinks his body fat percentage is higher now, he has more “lean muscle.”
Ben attributes his physique to maintaining a consistent routine rather than focusing on a single exercise.
