EastEnders’ Natalie Cassidy hints at quitting TV for very different job after show axe news

Natalie Cassidy has hinted that she might enjoy switching from a TV career to something entirely different, amidst news that one of her shows is set to end.
In a recent episode of the Off the Telly podcast, the EastEnders star and her celebrity co-host, Gavin and Stacey’s Joanna Page, engaged in a lighthearted chat about what they’d been up to over the last week.
When Joanna inquired about Natalie’s week, the soap icon disclosed that she’d been working on a new BBC care show, believed to be slated for a 2026 release, and that she felt “really proud”.
It prompted the Sonia Fowler actress to reveal the type of job she might prefer if she wasn’t working in showbiz, gushing that she “really” loves it, although she conceded she could change her “tune”.
Natalie said: “And almost, Jo, I’ve been with some nurses and stuff today, and I sort of feel like that’s the job I should have done. I really love it. I really, really love it.
“I feel really like it’s gonna be an eye-opener and something that I’m really gonna be proud of, so again, it’s the beginning, and there’s a long time to go. I might change my tune, but yeah, it’s been a really great week, thank you.”
Natalie hinted that the show will see her fulfil a personal ambition of training as a carer, studying and working alongside others and joining one of the UK’s top health and social care colleges.
The show will follow Natalie, who recently left EastEnders after more than three decades, as she moves from the classroom to community care services, assisting people with various care needs.
Joanna said the show would be “fulfilling”, and Natalie would ultimately be a “changed woman” by the end. Natalie pointed out that it was a level 3 NVQ but dipped into all care.
She added: “And I thought, ‘Well, what if I really like something and I wanna do an NVQ in that?’ You know, another level of care.” Joanna responded by suggesting it could lead to a career change.
Later in the episode, the two hosts announced that it would sadly be the penultimate episode of the Off The Telly podcast, explaining that the BBC planned to “put their money into new projects”.
Speaking previously about her new show, Natalie said: “I’m thrilled to be embarking on a new adventure with BBC Daytime. In a series exploring social care, I will be going back to college and learning for the first time since leaving school at 16.”
She added that caring had always been a “huge part” of her life, from how she watched her mum care for her nan to being a mother herself and taking care of her dad.
