Coronation Street star lets slip who ‘saves’ Eileen Grimshaw as she faces murder charge

Ryan Thomas has confirmed that Jason Grimshaw is heading back to Weatherfield to "save" Eileen Grimshaw as she faces prison having been accused of killing her sister Julie Carp

Coronation Street’s Eileen Grimshaw is currently facing prison having been accused of murdering her own sister Julie Carp.

The Street Cabs worker was left devastated after being called in for questioning at the police station in the middle of drinks to remember her late sibling.

George Shuttleworth later discovered that Brian Packham, who was previously in a relationship with Julie, was the true culprit who reported Eileen.

Julie’s love was furious to think Eileen helped Julie died and said he was proud of reporting her but viewers know Julie took her own life while facing death from terminal cancer.

Meanwhile at the station, Eileen was terrified when DS Lisa Swain advised her to get a solicitor for an interview under caution.

As Lisa interviewed her, she demanded to know if Eileen had helped Julie. Swain told her that she was facing a murder charge and 14 years in prison should she be charged.

Actress Sue Cleaver confirmed in January this year that she’s leaving the ITV soap after 25 years playing fan favourite Eileen.

She’s already filmed her exit and her on-screen son Jason Grimshaw, played by Ryan Thomas, returned for her final scenes.

Sue and Ryan were reunited on Loose Women on Friday (May 9) afternoon and they opened up about working together on the ITV soap.

Speaking about his return, Ryan said: “Are we allowed to talk about this? This is quite big news isn’t it. Jason is coming back to save Eileen.

“Mother rings me asking ‘will you come back for my exit storyline?’ and I went ‘yeah’. It was very nostalgic and it was the place it all started.”

Confirming her exit at the time, Sue said: “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street.

“The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly.”

Sue took a break from Corrie last year to star in Sister Act The Musical as Mother Superior and appeared in reality show I’m A Celebrity in 2022.

The TV star is also a regular panelist on Loose Women
