SAD NEWS: Heart-wrenching exit as Corrie favourite shares ‘tearful’ leaving update after split
It was confirmed at the start of the year that the actor will soon be bowing out of the ITV soap after almost 14 years in the role of Craig Tinker
Colson Smith’s exit from Coronation Street is edging ever closer as he took to social media with an update before celebrating what he called the ‘best news’.
It was confirmed at the start of the year that the actor will soon be bowing out of the ITV soap after almost 14 years in the role of Craig Tinker.
Colson shared the news on social media before explaining that he was informed that his character had reached the end of his time in Weatherfield.
In the social media post, shared to X and Instagram alongside a picture of himself portraying Craig as a police officer, which confirmed the news, Colson said: “Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker’s time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025.
“I’ve loved every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I’ve learned pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home.
“I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy. For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!”
Months have since passed by and it seems Colson’s last day is imminent as he took to his Instagram Story on Wednesday (March 19) with a picture from his car and said: “Made my leaving party playlist this morning…” before adding a single tear emoji and a champagne bottle emoji.
But Colson was soon distracted as he reacted to the news that his Celebrity Big Brother pal Bradley Riches is joining Emmerdale. The actor will be joining the ITV soap as a new regular character, with his name and storyline still under wraps.
Sharing a snap of the TV screen in the Corrie green room playing Good Morning Britain sharing the news, Colson wrote on his Instagram Story: “Best news ever!”
Due to arrive on screens in May, Bradley officially started filming his first scenes in the Dales this week. Speaking about his new role, the former star of Netflix’s Heartstopper shared: “I’m beyond excited to be joining Emmerdale!
“It’s a real bucket list moment for me, especially since it was my grandad’s favourite soap, I just know he’d be over the moon. Everyone has been so lovely and welcoming, and the village is even more amazing in real life.”
He added: “I absolutely love my character (though I can’t spill too much just yet!), and I’m just so grateful for this opportunity. I can’t wait for everyone to see what’s in store…”
